Prenatal Well was founded by Dr. Maya Dominique, OB/GYN, and her husband, Attorney Otis Dominique, a couple united by both calling and conviction. Together, they share one vision to change the story of maternal health by building a world where every woman is cared for, supported, and seen.
Years later, while serving as an OB/GYN in a Federally Qualified Health Center in Northwest Indiana, Dr. Dominique saw too many women struggling to access what they needed most transportation, healthy food, mental-health support, or simply someone to walk beside them through the journey of motherhood. Those experiences, paired with the couple’s shared faith and heart for service, led to the creation of Prenatal Well, a nonprofit organization committed to closing the gaps that separate women from the care and advocacy they deserve.
Attorney Otis Dominique’s leadership and legal insight helped turn that vision into structure building the systems, partnerships, and foundation that make the dream sustainable. Together, the Dominiques built Prenatal Well not just as a program, but as a promise: that compassionate, high-quality Whole Woman Care should be a universal right, not a privilege.
Before a building ever stood, Prenatal Well began in motion, with people, purpose, and heart. In 2024, the organization launched its Inaugural Women’s Wellness Fair, bringing health screenings, education, and empowerment directly to the community. Hundreds of women attended from Gary, Merrillville, East Chicago, and surrounding areas, many receiving vital care for the first time.
From that momentum, Prenatal Well began developing its cornerstone initiative, Early Connect, a prenatal assistance program offering trimester-specific education, nutritious food boxes, 24-hour maternal advocate support, transportation help, and mental-health screening. These early steps reflect what Prenatal Well is all about: meeting women where they are, filling the gaps that others overlook, and walking beside them, every step of the way.
